In the back of the house we have a lot of tree coverage which means I need together a little creative to get color back there. I used to do Impatiens but in recent years they've had fungus issues and last year we discovered that the chickens like to eat the buds which made them pretty useless for me other than a chicken buffet! I have also tried bogonia but they get very woody by the end of the season. Coleus come in so many pretty shades and I love to mix and match them to provide color even into the fall. They've always been my mainstay. I typically have done spikes in the middle of my pots, but this year I found these Twister Juncus and I thought they went well with the Wizard Coleus! I also added in some fuchsia and purple strobilanthes. I like to do a mix in the larger pots and then do some smaller pots that are single variety to coordinate. As always, take pictures or save your tags, and take notes remember what worked well for next year!
