I thought I would write a quick post to share my Christmas mantles with you! The first one I did was on the Family room mantle in the same room as the tree. I wanted it to be warm and rustic while accommodating the artwork we keep there year round. I bought an N, E an L at a craft store in different fonts. I painted them rusty red, silver and green. In order to give the Red and Green a rustic appearance after the first coat of paint I added a bit of brown to the color and then wiped it on in streaks over the flat color. I left the silver nice and bright for contrast. I then used a large stick ball that I already had as the O. NOEL! I then surrounded with some wooden display containers I found at a home store that I filled with pinecones and berry garland, little vases filled with feathers the girls found on the property (an ever-growing collection), candles and bookended with a pair of Nutcrackers. On the kitchen side I wanted to do something in metallics and whites to play off the mirror that we keep there year round. When we moved in we replaced all the original 1956 windows. I sold most of them but kept one just in case I wanted it for decor. So why not bring it out to add to the mantle? When I bought the letters at the craft store, I also bought these ones, again in a variety of fonts. I painted them silver and also sprayed some of them with a little gold for variation in color. With the tree actin as my A, I love the combination of the whites and metallics with the PEACE message. Surrounded by silver reindeer and candles along with a whitewashed wooden angel, I think it's a sweet collection. I hope this inspires you to build your own mantle incorporating some of your favorite holiday treasures!
