The next hunt/camp meal I am documenting is another very light but complete meal that can be easily packed with you on long hikes or camping when you’re packing everything to your site or taking days of food with you at a time. This one uses dried chow mein noodles I can find right at my local grocery store, freeze dried chicken and vegetables, and a packet of dried Alfredo mix. Here is what goes into each pouch: Chicken Alfredo Pasta: 1 brick of noodles (the pack comes with three) 1/3c dried veggie mix (you can use any veggies you’d like in a pasta primavera dish. This one has carrots, bell peppers, onion, celery and parsley.) 2/3c Freeze dried chicken Pinch pepper (skip the salt, there’s lots in the sauce) Keep the Alfredo sauce separate in its own pouch. I’ll explain below why when I detail how to cook this one. If you wanted to bring a pouch of canned chicken instead of freeze dried, you sure could. It’ll just be heavier. Vacuum seal on gentle. Some of the noodles will crack and pop. Like the taco rice, you’ll want to try to avoid the noodles piercing the bag. To cook this one you will fill the bag with lots of hot water to cook the contents. Fold over the top and secure it and let it steep for several minutes until everything is soft. Then pour out most of the water carefully so as not to lose the contents. And sprinkle in your alfredo packet to make the sauce. Stir well. You may want to start with just half the packet and you can always add more to your liking. Hope you enjoy!!
